THE LAST WEEK TOGETHER – PART 17 – A TESTED SOBRIETY;

 


The last week we were together was the most intense. We had already spent about a thousand dollars in medical expenses and Ann wasn’t getting any better. She was getting chest pains at uncertain times. They had done the tests in Nakasero Hospital and physically, she was okay. This made it even harder for us. The doctors had no clear answers, and that left us helpless. I was drained financially and emotionally, and yet I wanted to stay strong for her. But I could feel myself breaking down.


I was deeply worried when the doctors gave her morphine and later administered fentanyl. In as much as these helped with the pain, I knew too well that they might open a door in her to crave stronger drugs. It’s something I am still worried about to this day.
