13½ YEARS SOBER
Today I make 13½ years sober, off alcohol and marijuana.
At one point, I couldn’t even imagine going through life without drinking or smoking. Those substances were my crutches, my comfort, my escape. They were how I coped with the things that hit us all in life. But they were draining me.
You might wonder: What’s so special about getting off drugs and alcohol? Fair question. Let me show you.
More Than Just Quitting:
Recovery isn’t just about quitting the drink. It’s about what happens after. It’s about the insight, the knowledge, the wisdom, and the prudence you gain as you refine your coping mechanisms.
I’ve learned to lean into prayer. To practice forgiveness. To set healthy boundaries. To embrace abstinence, not just from substances, but from toxic patterns. These aren’t just coping mechanisms anymore. They’re thriving mechanisms. And more are unfolding every day.
