COMING CELEBRATION
This Friday, I will be celebrating 13½ years of sobriety. As I reflect on this journey, a few lessons and moments stand out to me.
It’s been 13 years of sleeping in my own bed, apart from a few nights in hotels. Back when I was drinking, I often ended up sleeping in parking yards. That happened to me a lot. Today, I don’t take the simple gift of a safe bed for granted.
It’s been 13 years of being surrounded by alcohol or marijuana without having the desire to drink or smoke. The urge was lifted. For a guy who used to scout bars looking for unfinished beers to empty, this is something.
Sobriety has given me immense peace. It is truly priceless. This peace has unlocked my creativity, and I’m now more creative than ever. I’ve written three books and am working on a fourth; a memoir of my journey that will explore my life before I started drinking, during my years of drinking, and after I got sober.…
