Question: On the topic of communicating with others, how did you go about mending your broken family relations?
Answer:
The truth is, at times recovery can actually set a wedge between you and your family members. As you begin to heal, you start to recognize your worth and become very intentional about protecting your peace. This often means you no longer tolerate certain behaviors, and that shift can create tension; especially if those around you are not also working on their own healing and growth.
This is why family therapy is so important. It creates a space where everyone can process, learn, and grow together.
In overcoming addiction, you’re also learning to set healthy boundaries. These boundaries are necessary, but they can easily be misunderstood. Family may see them as pride or rejection, when in reality they’re acts of self-respect. For harmony to return, those around you also…
